OFFICE NATIONAL INCREASES ITS FOOTPRINT IN CYCLING

The Pretoria based Ultimate Office National branch has increased the brand’s footprint in cycling by announcing its presenting partnership with the Tshwane Diamond Classic, Gauteng’s new national classic road race which takes place on 26 May 2019 in Pretoria.

Office National is South Africa’s largest independently owned provider of office products and stationery. Following the national brand’s addition as presenting partner to the Tshwane Classic earlier this year, their largest Pretoria franchise has now also joined the cycling sponsorship arena with their support of the Diamond Classic.

The good news for the event continued this week when the sponsorship framework received a further boost with Petra Diamonds Cullinan also announcing their support for Gauteng’s new mass participation road race.

“With this agreement we believe that we can ensure exposure throughout the year for the brand in Pretoria,” said Ultimate Office National MD, Stephan Corthing.

“A lot of our customers cycle and it’s very important for us to engage with them off-line. Cycling is a wonderful tool in this regard. When head-office announced their agreement with the Tshwane Classic, we felt it gave us a springboard.

“As a result, the Diamond Classic made sense for us to further reinforce the brand in Pretoria. We also love the fact that cycling is a healthy, family orientated sport,” said Corthing, who is the father of a 3-year-old son and twin daughters aged 1.

The Diamond Classic is staged by Hectic Promotions (NPC), the company that also organises the big Tshwane Classic, presented by Jacaranda FM and Office National, as well as the Bestmed Cycle4CANSA, presented by the Optimum Group at Sun City.

“It’s exceptional to have major sponsors back the event in its first year,” said Diamond Classic organiser, Mauritz Meyer from Hectic Promotions. “We are ecstatic and look forward to working with them to vest the Diamond Classic as a major stop-over on the national calendar,” he said.

The Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Classic is in its 22nd year of presentation and 2018 saw Hectic Promotions present the second edition of the Tshwane Classic, which attracted 7000 cyclists.

“We also organise the annual Paarl Boxing Day Track Challenge, which is the oldest and most prestigious cycling event in the country,” said Meyer.

“The Diamond Classic is the first event that we’re launching since the Tshwane Classic three years ago and we are using our extensive marketing platform and logistical capacity to establish the race.”

Said Corthing, “We appreciate the various charity initiatives that benefit from the staging and it’s also nice for Ultimate Office National to be a part of the event from the outset. We will assist in any way possible to help grow the event along with Hectic Promotions.”

Hectic Promotions is active with various community-based projects in Pretoria, which include the Winter Woollies knitting project, which saw 1800 beanies handed out during the winter of 2018, the Green Caps Recycling Project, and the infrastructure revamp project focussed on the upliftment of clinics and libraries in Pretoria.

“Our projects are managed in collaboration with the Tshwane Metro and Cycle4Food. We are active with various community-based upliftment projects in Tshwane and we would like to continue extending their reach and scale. Every partner that comes on board with our events helps us do this and we are extremely thankful,” said Meyer.

Cullinan and its surrounds represent the perfect route option for a mass participation road cycling event with delightfully quiet roads with good road surfaces, and it’s all very adjacent to Pretoria.

The event starts and finishes at Pretoria’s impressive Baviaanspoort Correctional Facility, which presents ample parking, lots of shade, neat ablutions and wonderful catering facilities – all crucial elements for accommodating a mass participation sporting event.

The 110km route, which starts at 07h00, presents 1030 metres of elevation gain while the 50km route presents 561metres of vertical ascent.

Kids’ races (3-4-year-olds and 5-7-year-olds) and a 5km fun walk for the entire family are presented in conjunction with the road race inside the grounds of the Baviaanspoort Correctional Facility.

Participants can enter the kids races and fun walk on the morning at the Rugby Stadium Race Office for a R10 donation towards the upkeep of the facility.

The kids races and 5km fun walk will start at 08h00.

Ample drinks and eats will be on sale at the venue – the catering is done masterfully by Correctional Services – while ample ablutions and parking are available at the facility’s rugby stadium. Clubs can also erect gazebos on the rugby field from early morning.

Baviaanspoort Correctional boasts beautifully shaded braai facilities surrounding the adjacent dam and riders can bring their “dop en tjop” along to braai on the banks of the dam. Entrance to the dam is a donation of R20 towards the upkeep of the facility.
